ABOUT US
Longevity and consistency are perhaps the two words that most adequately describe Essington Wood, that since its foundation in 1834 it has maintained a membership of around 30 country dwellers who may have their origin in a house-group set up by John Wesley himself who was known to have connections at Bentley and Hilton and may have passed through the present village of Essington. The original building was set up on a generous sized piece of land, possibly donated by a local farmer, and took a major step forward in 1883 when the original round structure was replaced by a larger building fronting Bursnips Road and containing a worship centre and school room. A smaller Sunday School room and a fairly primitive kitchen was added in the 1920’s and served the neighbourhood well until 1978 when the present building was completed with a worship centre seating up to 60 people, a hall that will accommodate a further 150 people and the ‘Alec Room’ (an all-purpose addition in memory of Alec Birch who gave a lifetime of service covering most of the twentieth century).
